Baby Led Weaning is the ability of a baby to show when they are hungry and full around food together with breast milk or formula milk. It is done by offering whole, solid, finger foods and allowing them to eat by themselves. Deciding on how much and how fast they will eat, it is the process of skipping purees and spoon-feeding.
There are huge difference between Traditional Weaning and Baby Led Weaning. BLW is messy, you don’t know how much food your little one eats, eating time takes longer, they enjoy wide variety of foods, more likely to be less picky eater, and learn to be independent by letting them eat by themselves (The Benefits of Baby Led Weaning). While Traditional Weaning is less messy, you barely see how much food they take, research show that they likely to become a picky eater (How to Deal With Your Picky Eater?).
BLW facilitates the development of age appropriate oral motor control while eating on their own. It allows baby to enjoy and savor their food, exploring the broad spectrum of colors that food have to offer. Hand-eye coordination is developed through this method as your child perfect the skills as getting enough food in their mouth.
